Words and Art........

just posting thoughts today about words and art... familiar and unfamiliar words and phrases i really like... lollygag and lallygag, brittle brilliance, stunning, itch, want, sheer will, sumptuously, marvel, skeedaddle, "nothing lasts forever", "i can do what i want", "dolce far niente" - the sweetness of doing nothing, "magical time in a treehouse with christmas lights", "ruin is the path to transformation", "so miss me"....... now i'll continue the mind fun of experiencing the art possibilities to reflect each... but i'm gonna have some manchego cheese and pears first.

interior spaceLIFT - Lanterns were a gem of a find and provide just the right amount of drama in an indoor or outdoor space!

interior spaceLIFT - Katie's - I love this architectural element above the bed!

interior spaceLIFT - Ditched old carpet and painted floor a breezy high gloss white.

Holly, Wreaths, and Garland...Oh My!

I'm finally dedicating some time to post photos of this last holiday project. Gina and I did some amazing things and had fun seeing our clients' smiling faces when finished with our creations! We hope to have our wonderful mentor and sweet friend, Mary, join in on the holiday fun this year. We worked hard at transforming homes into winter wonderlands last year, and we're practically booked the entire month of November into the first week of December, but might be able to squeeze in one or two more clients. Success! "Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful.."

Note: I'm reposting this again to be current as the photos that follow relate to this bit of news...and makes me laugh to read it again!)

Glitter and Garland and Lights, Oh My!  (originally posted 12/01/09 in the wee small hours of the morning....)

Last week was full of such things! Fellow design elf (Gina) and I are recovering from last week's flurry of holiday installations. We worked 'round the clock on some lovely homes for equally lovely clients. At last count, one holiday showcase home housed eleven trees along with mounds of garland, tinsel, ribbons, bows, jeweled ornaments and glistening lights. Two were mini's, but the rest were 6 - 18 ft trees. Perhaps some were larger (or smaller), but then again it's all a faint memory now. I hope to post a few pictures in a day or so, but December 1st has quickly descended upon me...which translates into strapping on my necessary design attire (10 hour days + one 15 minute break = Dr. Scholl's massaging gel inserts) and game-ready gear: wire cutters, scissors, hot glue gun, tall soy chai latte, etc... to get another grand home ready to ring in the holiday season! Ho Ho Ho!

Holiday Musical Staircase

Holiday Dining Room Table, Mantel, and Chandelier - Gina's branches in the chandelier looked fab, but you can't see them! Dag nab it!

Holiday Casual Family Room2 - I had fun with this one... elegantly casual to showcase the husband's sports oriented ornaments.

Holiday Living Room 2008 - I used lots of peacock feathers and gold sprigs. It was stunning! I decorated her room with bronze accents and rich reds.

Holiday Side Entry Area - I had creative fun with this one as the wreath was a mess from years of use. I revamped it with a copper and bronze palette.

Simple Holiday Star Wreath - This poor little wreath was also in bad shape. I removed the old ornaments and added several new elements like the stars!

Outdoor Garland 92 ft Railing - This was gorgeous, so simple- traditional green/red draping her railing near the lovely fountain! Spectacular!

Brown and White Holiday Room - This was so pretty! At the client's request, I used browns, blues and crystal ornaments.

Cool Holiday Santa That Weighed A Ton! - We laughed so hard trying to carry this heavy man.

Holiday Mirror - This was a drippingly beautiful masterpiece. Kudos to Gina for the inspiration as this set the tone for the entire room!

Family Tree Room - Challenging as Gina and I had slim pickings on ornaments (7 rooms to decorate in 1 home) and used all of client's ornaments.

White Holiday Bedroom - Gina's angels were almost flying off the armoire!

Holiday Family Room Mantel - We loved this one. It turned out so beautiful! Narrow mantel = wiring challenge, but we did it!

Holiday Staircase

Dining Room Holiday Elegance - My favorite tree of Gina's!

Rustic Holiday Office - The client had some great ornaments (loved the outhouse ornaments!) I did this for hubby's office! Manly and charming!

Holiday Powder Room - I completely redesigned this arrangement above les toilettes. Santa watched me! And now I'm on his GOOD LIST. lol!

Whites Golds and Creams Bedroom Tree - I loved this tree when I finished. It was the first topper I made in that home, and I'm short..it wasn't easy.

Angel Room - This was heavenly (pardon the pun). Gina designed the garland mantel and I designed the tree. So pretty!

Holiday Living Room Tree

Holiday Elf Bookcase - I had fun designing holiday shelving units. They looked rich and playful!

Holiday Office - I loved this one. i designed the garland using really cool organic elements and interesting ornaments - some new and some client had.

Festive Bookshelf - Another holiday bookshelf I created. It was so cute!
